Unifying, culture, history, and arts in diverse ways, the Philippine Fashion Gala 2018 showcased talents of different designers all over the country at Green Sun Hotel last June 2, 2018. 'Lokal' made a difference by presenting models in different races, sizes, and gender to walk in the runway with pieces from both young and professional fashion designers.
My brother and I were invited by a long-time friend who is also a designer at the gala, Yna Mendez. Her collection is called Montañosa which is according to her blog "to give tribute to the Igorots in Mt. Province, to celebrate Filipino ingenuity, to show that local fabrics can be turned into wearable pieces, and to fall inlove with the Philippines."
We were able to witness how Made in the Philippines could be deconstructed to create a renowned piece that can compete globally. Each pieces were inspired by the beauty of cultures, tribes, history, body positivity, and Philippine arts.
